A better title for this post would be, "Favorite Cover Songs This Week". I love cover songs.

Here are some other runners up, in no particular order:

* "Somebody" by Veruca Salt (Depeche Mode)

* "Beautiful" by Clem Snide (Christina Agilera)

* "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Straight Outta Junior High (Bonnie Tyler)

* "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley (Leonard Cohen)

* "Dangerous Type" by Letters to Cleo (The Cars)

* "I Want You to Want Me" by Letters to Cleo (Cheap Trick)

* "Somebody's Baby" by Phantom Planet (Jackson Browne)

* "Across the Universe" by Rufus Wainwright (The Beatles)

I could do this ALL DAY.

Chris, I just listened to the "Paranoid Android" cover you were talking about. Holy crap, that is cool.

By the way, it was the UMASS Front Percussion Ensemble.

5. "I Will Survive" by Cake (Gloria Gaynor)
4. "Leaving on a Jet Plane," Chantal Kreviazuk (see Brook's list -- this is my favorite of her songs.)
3."Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Tori Amos (Nirvana)
2. "Blackbird" by Sarah McLachlan (The Beatles? Or was it just Paul?)
1. "Personal Jesus" by Johnny Cash (blanking on the original)

Close runners up
"Ring of Fire" by Billy Bob Thornton (Johnny Cash, I think).
The version of "Red Red Wine" was saw last summer -- a middle aged white man of Norwegian descent did the reggae rap. It was good. I believe the band was called Tropical Ice. The concert was free.

Yes, "Leaving on a Jet Plane" was one of Peter, Paul & Mary's biggest hits. But it was written by John Denver at the airport in Lubbock, Texas when he was a student at Texas Tech.

I got this information from a very reliable source. Some guy. On the Internet. I'm nothing if not thorough.
